Achewood
Web Developer (Contractor)

Performed a major architectural overhaul of a popular online comic strip, developing a simple ecommerce system to improve the site’s scalability and reduce its maintenance costs.

  • Designed the database schema and coded the logic for the new online store which serves over 14,000 regular customers.
  • Created the web admin application that allows the site administrators to manage the product catalog and inventory.
  • Improved PayPal integration, automating stock level adjustments and fulfillment notifications via the IPN interface.

CocoLuna
Web Developer (Co–technical Lead)
San Francisco, California
2005 – 2007

Served as the primary developer at a self-funded online retail company specializing in upscale imported European children’s clothing. Worked closely with the four other founding members to design the ecommerce site, admin tool, and SQL data model.

  • Developed the online store from the ground up, implementing it as an XML+XSL site with client-side transformation.
  • Designed the database schema with the other technical lead, and coded the stored procedures and trigger functions.
  • Incorporated a site-wide “add to rack” feature into the store that invokes drag-and-drop and sortable dragging UI behaviors along with asynchronous POSTs to save changes to the server.
  • Created the system to be forward-compatible with long-term plans to experiment with variable pricing.
  • Reduced server load by helping devise a site versioning scheme that has allowed us to limit requests for embedded page resources by sending effectively infinite Expires header values.
  • Assisted in managing the release cycle and administering the servers.
Redline Networks (acquired by Juniper Networks)
Web Developer
Campbell, California
2000 – 2005

Handled all web-development responsibilities for the IT and R&D groups at a venture-funded network hardware company.

  • Created the web interface to our command-line server load testing utility, making it suitable for field use by the sales engineering team.
  • Devised a demo automation tool that remotely configured multiple network devices, ran load tests, and displayed the results as graphs for use during sales calls, dramatically improving lead conversion.
